England have booked themselves a place in the World Cup finals in South Africa next summer, but it looks like one star will be left behind. David Beckham has shot himself in his Adidas Predators for the last time in his international career.
The England boss Fabulous Capello had urged the ex-England captain to find competitive football after his team LA Galaxy finish their play-offs in November. A loan deal with AC Milan had looked likely until the Essex superstar made one of his notorious stupid mistakes.
Beckham's American agent, Allen Stench Pillow, told us how the events unfolded from his Los Angeles condo.
"David asked me to put out feelers for a football club. After a few offers came in from teams called Spurs United in England and, I assume a track and field team in Spain called Althletico Madrid, I decided on a football team I had actually heard of."
So who are the famous football club that the most capped England player has signed a contract for? When Beckham was enjoying being part of the 5-1 smashing of Croatia at Wembley his agent signed him up for none other than the Dallas Cowboys American Football team.
With a ruling about not being able to play for more than 2 clubs in a season and early retirement from getting his head smashed in for a couple of months in the NFL it looks unlikely that the ex-Man United player will be joining his England colleagues in South Africa in 2010.
Fabulous Capello fumed, "What do you expect. If the ref forgets his whistle he blows into Beckham's nose at full time to rattle the pea that he has for a brain."
Beckham refused to be dragged into the controversy saying he was actually looking forward to playing baseball as he enjoyed new challenges.
