London has been chosen to host the 2010 International Wife Carrying event. After this year's event in Helsinki finished the IOC announced that London had defeated Paris, Moscow, Athens, LA and Dudley in the bid to host the event.
"Naturally we are delighted,'said Lord Coco,"I spent a great deal of time promoting London as an ideal venue. This is going to be a real test, far harder than hosting the Olympics."
Britain's number 1 ranked wife carrier, Roland Butcher said "This is great news. I've got an excellent record carrying my wife on the London circuit. I feel really confident that I can pull it off on the day."
This year the event was won by the Finish couple Eric Mabakaleinen and his wife of 5 years Heidi Debatableinen. Estonia's Rolf Lyspooken and Dora Jar came second. Butcher finished a lowly 17th, but is not too concerned. "I've never done well in Helsinki. The wife hates the food. It gives her really bad wind. It's no fun carrying her when she is dropping them right into my ear. Get her back home and on her normal diet and I'm sure we will do Britain proud."
The nation waits with bated breath.
