Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo was at the centre of a new controversy today, when the Portugeezer ploughed his Ferrari into a pillar in a tunnel at Manchester Airport.
The whinger was leaving Ringway, when he lost concentration, and smashed the vehicle into the concrete pillar. He emerged from the car unscathed, but, according to other motorists, then went down like a sack of potatoes writhing in agony, and appeared to appeal for a penalty by waving an imaginary red card at an imaginary referee.
Edwin van der Sar, United's 'keeper, who was following Ronaldo in his Bentley, joined his colleague by running from car-to-car, and remonstrating with confused drivers.
Amazingly, one eyewitness at the A538 crash site was Jim Dean, a local Sunday League referee, and Manchester City fan, who saw nothing wrong with the incident, and waved play on.
Ronaldo then blew kisses to onlookers and signed autographs for well-wishers who had gathered to see the star's mangled machine.
