Formula One motor racing fans probably thought they had seen everything the sport had to throw at them over the years, but British driver, Lewis Hamilton, had a surprise for fans at the Mexican Grand Prix yesterday, as he rode - and won - the race wearing a huge sombrero instead of a helmet!
The win, which puts Hamilton on the verge of his fifth world title, was achieved in the hot, intense cauldron of the Mexico City track, with the crowd baying and shouting "Ole! Ole! Ole!" every time Hamilton completed a lap. He, in turn, raised his huge, black sombrero off his big head to acknowledge their love.
The Mercedes driver grinned at fans as he took the chequered flag, and punched the air with one hand, and waved his sombrero with the other during his victory lap.
Hamilton will be crowned this year's champion in the next race, the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, unless anyone else overtakes him in the drivers' championship.
