Former Eastender hardman Ross Kemp (Grant Mitchell in the soap) today called on the Olympic Committee to include snooker in the 2016 Games in Rio, Brazil.
In a statement on his website Kemp explained his feelings.
"Some people enjoy watching the beach volleyball which apparently is a sport because they knock the ball over the net to each other, but snooker is a game of skill, thought and tactics. And over the years players like Ronnie O'Sullivan, Jimmy White and Alex Higgins have brought excitement and flair to the game as well. The ODC, not the OCD, should consider this strongly as snooker is also capable of bringing in huge viewing figures of 15 million plus, even though my research is based on the 1985 final."
Barry Hearn, World Snooker Supremo, was unavailable for comment today, thought to be locked in battle with West Ham United for the Olympic Stadium for his football club Leyton Orient.
It is believed that Kemp was pressured into the statement by his nan, who is a big snooker fan, who is known to record it on Sky Plus and watch it back, as revealed by Kemp in a hard hitting interview, sorry advert for Sky Plus six years ago. Sources close to Kemp suggest that his nan has not set the Sky Plus up for any Olympic sports.
Kemp, who was previously married to controversial News International head honcho Rebekkah Brooks, but the pair separated after she was cautioned by police for clipping him round the ear.
