Unscheduled lane closures are causing another headache for London 2012 Olympic Games organisers adding to the security and logistical nightmare that has already tarnished the games with delays, tailbacks and congestion anticipated.
Due to resurfacing, lanes 7 and 8 will be closed on the running track until 3rd August in the Olympic stadium with athletes being diverted to lanes 6 and 5 which will no doubt cause congestion, gridlock and tailbacks.
The construction of a temporary hard shoulder is being discussed to filter rush hour runners involved in races with more than the standard number of competitors competing, including the 10,000 meters and steeplechase events.
Olympic officials have asked that anyone using the running track to seek alternative routes until the resurfacing is completed and lanes reopen and to avoid the area at peak times.
