Police are looking for the proprietor of flammablesubstances.web after the website caught fire last Tuesday, damaging hundreds of computer monitors around the world.
The website is registered to a company in Peckham that sells various flammable materials including petrol, kerosene and bottled fartgas. Fire investigators believe the webmaster was smoking a cigarette while updating the site, and a spark ignited the catalogue pages. The fire quickly spread to the home page.
Google reported one of their web crawlers having a narrow escape, having indexed the site only minutes before the incident.
Hundreds of customers have complained that their monitor screens became charred and smoke damaged while looking at the site as the blaze took hold. They are now suing flammablesubstances.web in a class action.
