A man in Hertfordshire has invented a system for generating free electricity from water. His system is set to revolutionise power generation for many homeowners in the UK.
Michael Friday explained how his system works:
"It's only good for houses where the water isn't metered," he told us, "because it works by rigging up an electrical generator to the water main. Then you turn the water on full blast and let it run down the drain."
We questioned whether the system was ethical or even legal. Friday told us "Let's not get into semantics. I do use some of the water for making cups of tea or topping up my pond. But I've reduced my carbon footprint and replaced it with a water footprint. All that potential energy stored in the local water tower is not being tapped at present."
Friday now plans to sell his system to other un-metered water users around the country. Following the announcement, the UK's water authorities all signalled an acceleration of their water meter installation programmes.
