Scientists today discovered one of the rarest things on Earth, an episode of an American sitcom that is actually funny.

Speaking from the University of Self-Importance in Detroit, Dr Joey Chandler said: 'It was remarkable, we were actually trying to locate the bones of that legendary dinosaur, presidentiosaurus intelligenticum, which existed many, many years ago, when we accidentally came across a sitcom episode that is funny. We just couldn't believe it, and neither could I!' [canned laughter]

'For over 40 years American sitcoms have been feeble soap operas, that are only called comedies because they feature canned laughter [canned laughter], otherwise you might as well be watching a children's drama. But now we know that at least one sitcom existed that made people laugh, and I don't mean American elections!' [canned laughter]

But speaking from her house in Miami, sitcom actress Lisa Kudrow questioned the discovery. 'Look, OK, stuff like 'Friendzzz' and 'Ally McBore' and 'Roseyawn' were just soaps, and about as funny as a dose of athlete's foot, but at least they made housewifes cry. This alleged funny episode cannot be real, there's never been an American sitcom that is actually humorous. Just think of M*A*S*H, I mean ...'

Dr Chandler is one of the world's leading unolinearologists, and also holds a doctorate in advanced heinz hysteria theory, and disagreed with Miss Kudrow's claims. 'While entitled to her idea that no American sitcom has ever made people laugh, she is overlooking a vital point, and that is the historic American sense of humor. Well, a people that can not only elect Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon as leaders but also George W Bush must have the ability to laugh at themselves, so a funny episode had to be discovered eventually.'

[STOP PRESS]. The funny American sircom episode that Dr Chandler claimed to have discovered has turned out to be an episode of British classic sitcom 'Porridge'. Dr Chandler was unavailable for comment.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
