Mac Buck performing I will Entertain You

Nobody who likes music likes to be in a pub on Karaoke night. As song after song is murdered by talentless twerps who believe that volume makes up for ability.

Now anybody can produce a virtuoso performance on Karaoke night and receive a standing ovations thanks to the latest applelet from Apple Core Labs: iSing.

"If I was a teenage girl," said App World! editor, Mac Buck, "I would be saying OMG! This app is the most awesome app I have ever downloaded."

Using the same 'auto-tune' technology as used on the X-Factor the app can take any poor singer's voice and transmogrify it in to the voice of an angel, even if the angel is singing Smells Like Teen Spirit. The iPhone links into any compatible microphone system, something most modern Karaoke machines have. The singer sings into the phone, and what comes out of the speakers is the auto-tuned voice.

"It's phenomenal technology," said Buck. "My voice is atrocious, but with the iSing app on my phone, I can sound like Barry White, Shirley Bassey or Jon Bon Jovi."

The app has to be trained to the voice of the owner, which takes about five minutes. Once done, it listens to the music being sung along to and manipulates the voice into perfect pitch for that song all automatically. There are tweaks that can be done manually, but the software is more finely tuned and produces a better sound than anything a human could accomplish.

"The tweaks do let you sing like C3P0 or Secret Squirrel on helium," said Buck. "That's always good for a giggle at parties."

Buck has even managed to win a Karaoke sing-off at his local pub with the app. "That was the iSing on the cake, really."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
