It may seem hard to believe, but there was a time when socks were scrunched, skinny "jeans" weren't made of denim (or for women), and Cher Horowitz was idolized by all. Although there is irrefutable evidence proving the '90s were a dark time for America regarding all things fashion, these icons definitely bring back memories of a simpler time (when news came on paper, carrying a cell phone was considered an aerobic workout, and names comprised of a number were not the norm).

Ultimate 90s Icon- Cher Horowitz

Cher Horowitz/ Alicia Silverstone
Alicia Silverstone became the envy of teenage girls all over the world on the day Clueless was released in 1995. Scratch that, the day the preview for Clueless was released. Calling her a fashion idol is an understatement. Of the '90s "icons" Cher is the only one who is still considered stylish today. And no, it isn't considered cheating just because she used a computer and her closet did all the heavy lifting.

Mario Lopez/AC Slater
Oh Mario Lopez, you were so much cooler in the '90s on Saved By the Bell

He was much cooler then.

(back when Jesse Spano thought you were a pig) thanks to your wardrobe. Zack Morris had the looks, Kelly Kapawski, and brilliant schemes, but Slater wore the pants. The only thing more entertaining than those catastrophic slacks was the curly mini-mullet adorning the top of Slater's head.

The Rachel

Rachel Green/ Jennifer Aniston
The Rachel. In the sophomore season of Friends, Rachel Green cried out, "Couldn't she just copy my haircut?" Be careful what you wish for or you may have to see it on nine out of ten heads for more than a few years. Thanks to Rachel's layered locks, people still can't say for certain if the haircut made the show or the show made the haircut.

Blossom/ Mayim Bilak

The origins of the sun flower frenzy trace back to Blossom and the hat decked out with a plastic flower. Regardless of your feelings for the TV show, you had a sun flower hat. Every time Mayim Bialik graces the TV screen on The Big Bang Theory, someone, somewhere thinks of their own hat with nostalgia. Though headwear made a comeback, the poor sunflower is still in retirement.

Despite the fact that these characters are gone, the impact made on Americans can never be forgotten. Please allow a moment of silence to honor their memory (and that of Clarissa, Uncle Jesse, and the cast of Reality Bites) as this generation would not be so great without their contributions.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
