Everything went fine, except for one little thing: it would have been much better if they were riding a two-hump camel. Yusel placed his cheek on Zule's bare shoulder. Later he found himself grabbing Zule's both breasts and squeezing them hard and kissing her back. It was a ride to eternity. It happens only once in one's lifetime. It is worth anything. Yusef was enjoying it beyond all bounds.
The only restriction he badly felt was saving it for the precious moments Zule and he would be sleeping together in the tent on the sheep skin bed of his boss. The shepherd lost track of time until she started unclasping his hands and showing uneasiness. Yulef asked, " Wa the ma-er?" Zule tiredly said, "Let me down. I am suffocating." Yusef, embarrassed, let her slip down and dismount.
Yusef opened his eye. He saw Zule's husband standing by a car with the engine running, on the road. Zule was running down the hill toward her husband. Having reached the car, she jumped in and the screeching car was driven off, without waving a hand.
Stunned, Yusef remained on the donkey long after the car was gone. The dust settled. The donkey grabbed Yusef's pants as if saying "get off me." Yusef, still in shock, slowly slid down. The donkey turned her back, kicking several times in the air, started running toward the tent.
The sun was setting. Patches of cloud turned yellow, then purple. The shepherd stood transfixed, watching the empty dirt road. Clouds turned black. The shepherd was watching the road without blinking. When the dusk fell, he awakened. Now, started running toward his flock.
Having reached the top of the plateau, he saw the dog and the donkey lying down side by side, looking eastward. They did not bother to look at him. Yusef, addressing the dog said, "Wa happened? Where's the flock? He followed the dog's pointing ears. He saw two trucks on the road turning the last visible bend. He could see the sheep and the goats, loaded. He grabbed a stone to hit the dog, but the dog jumped on his feet growling and angrily showing his teeth. Yusef had not seen the dog so angry before. He dropped the stone. Instead, he started beating his head as sign of befallen calamity. The donkey was madly swishing its tail.
