Here is the script of our special Interview with Maldives long serving President Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom with our Asia correspondent Alex Anderson.
Alex: Welcome to the Interview Sir.
Gayoom: Its nice to give an interview to a international press for free, normally I have to pay to give interviews. You know I have already appointed my daughter, so she can get me more interviews.
Alex: Hmm!. Sir, So you have been Asia's longest serving leader?
Gayoom: Simply not true, I never intended to stay. But Maldivians keep electing me.
Alex: According to our sources, you get 99% of votes.
Gayoom: Simply not true, I assign this task to my Brother Hameed. I dont know how he gets the votes, but he has done a fantastic job
Alex: It seems lots of Maldivians love their leader
Gayoom: Simply not true, I have imprisoned most of them.
Alex: Do you have Money in foriegn banks?
Gayoom: Simply not true, I dont have money stashed away, but I do have US Dollar.
Alex: You have promised lots of things to Maldivians, but never fullfill your promise.
Gayoom: Simply not true, I always say God Willing!. What Can I do If God doesnt help me? So it is not my fault. All Maldivian should know that.
Alex: We hear you like to win this election?
Gayoom: Simply not true, I am too old. I cant remember things, I take lots of Viagra. I use a wheel chair in the palce some times and more importantly God does not help me to fullfill my promises>
