The latest film by the Coen Brothers, is to be a modern day re make of the 1941 classic Raoul Walsh western, They Died With Their Boots On.
Where as the original followed the life of General George Armstrong Custer up to his death at the Little Big Horn, the new film is set in the UK, and follows the life of construction worker George Armstrong Custard, up to his death on a building site in 2025, at the age of 74.
In a story line, not too far removed from the truth, the government are forced to raise the retirement age to 75 because of rising debt and high unemployment. To reduce the number of people claiming benefit, what few jobs exist are given to the over sixties. In this way the government hope that many will die before reching 75, thus saving money on pensions.
On the building site, we see Custard's work mates dropping like flies, until inevitably it is the turn of our hero himself. Hence the title :- They Died With Their Work Boots On.
A TUC spokesman said, "At this moment in time this film is a work of fiction, but for how long?"
Tory back bencher Tarquin Fanshaw added, "I think the Coen Brothers must have inside information."
