This week, Usher was accused of lifting some of the lyrics of his hit single "O.M.G" from none other than Homer Simpson. To many, there is no doubt that the lyrics of the song Christmas in December" sung by Homer Simpson back in 2003, are almost identical to the lyrics in Usher's "O.M.G" and this has his fans crying foul.
In Usher's song, the lyrics "Honey got a booty like pow pow pow, honey got some boobies like wow, oh wow" ring familiar to those who know Simpson's "Christmas in December, wow wow wow." The fact that a song by a popular and considerably cool rapper like Usher would contain the idiotic phrase "honey got some boobies like wow, oh wow" is obviously lost on some as they say the plagiarism claim is the real issue here.
Commenting on the controversy, Usher issued this statement "Look, y'all. We're not even talking about a real person. I'm being accused of lifting lyrics from a cartoon character. That ain't plagiarism, man, plain and simple." Usher does admit to the fact that he heard the Simpson holiday song recently and thought the "wow wow wow" lyrics would fit perfectly within his song. He claims that the law protects him from taking lyrics from a non-human character.
Asked for a final comment, Usher unwittingly used yet another coined phrase, this time by Homer's son, Bart, when he exclaimed "Who would have thought that Homer Simpson's fans would "have a cow" over it?
