Girls Aloud star Nadine Gerrard and Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard have rushed back to Liverpool as they found out their mother's house had been set alight by thugs.
According to a source close to the family, both Nadine and Steven are fuming. "Nadine and Steven are of course upset but they are more angry at what has happened. They have been telling Julie [their mother] to move out of the house they grew up in for years, but Julie has refused to do it. She refuses to be pushed out by the thugs that are running around the area."
According to the source, who grew up around the Gerrards, police believe the incident has stemmed from press and internet reports that Steven Gerrard had been sleeping with a 15 year old girl. "Both the police and the family think these completely untrue rumours are at the heart of what has happened. This just proves that the press really can harm a person's life by printing such lies."
The uber-successful siblings have apparently stepped up security around their mother's 2 bedroomed terraced house. "There is 24 hour surveillance on the house. Nadine and Steven have split the cost of eight security guards, two each at the front and back of the house at any time and they have paid for a state of the art CCTV system to be fitted in the front and back yards. If anyone comes near the house, the security will know about it. Luckily there was only a little bit of damage to the front door but no-one was hurt."
The Gerrard family declined to comment on the story but a spokesman said "An incident has occured. The Gerrard family ask for privacy at this difficult time."
