Phoenix, AZ - Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer, is on a roll lately, signing a number of bills into law that have the Hispanic and Latino communities in Arizona, and around the world, wondering what the hell is bugging her.
This time, she's going after the movie industry. In a move that is said to be aimed more at California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger than at the makers of the movie, Machete, Brewer says that anyone in Arizona who attempts to show Machete in a public theater or sell the DVD to the public will be arrested and charged with disturbing the peace.
The war over this film began on Cinco de Mayo, when the film's star, Danny Trejo, made a special trailer wherein he looks into the camera and malevolently states, "This is Machete, with a special Cinco de Mayo message-to Arizona." The trailer then goes on to state how illegal aliens are being forced out of America at alarming rates"--oh the ramifications that action has wrought.
Brewer believes Arnold Schwarzenegger is responsible for this irresponsible and inciteful act by Trejo, who obviously is imitating Arnold's brand of intimidation. She is also apparently still up in arms over Schwarzenegger's call for a boycott of Arizona by folks in California.
At any rate, anyone looking for a B-movie way to take out their aggressions on an immigration reform bill that many believed is as flawed as the acting in Machete, can dish out the dough to see it, just as long as they don't plan on doing it in Arizona.
