Hollywood announced a new mid-season replacement series that will begin showing on television in January. It is another series based loosely on the famous Laura Ingalls Wilder books. This new show will be based on a non-traditional, politically correct family living in San Francisco, California in the late 1880's.
Producers have said that their new series will be called "Little Fairy on the Prarie." Unknowns have been cast to play the main roles of children, but the "parents" of the family will be played by Richard Simmons and David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane in Frasier).
In episode one Charles Ingalls (Simmons) is introduced as a man who runs the local candy store and is a professional fudge maker. His "life companion" wraps and packs the fudge (and other candies) for distribution. The couple are disturbed at work by a message that their eldest child, son Lauren, has been in a fight at school. The child's teacher, to be played by Ellen Degeneres, helps them to get to the bottom of the problems and have the offending child kicked out of school for violation of hate crime laws.
Titles of future episodes include:
- Why Daddy Wears A Bra and Bloomers
- I Stuck My Finger in the Dike and She Hit Me
- When Uncle Susan went to Sweden for Surgery
- The Adventure of Mark and the Sheep in His Bedroom
- Father Murphy and the Altar Boys
The estate of Michael Landon made a public announcement that they had nothing to do with this series.
