ITV bosses have been in touch with various estate agents as they put every house on Coronation Street up for sale.
RightMove the on-line estate agent has been chosen as the preferred agent for selling the iconic houses, with the Rovers Return expected to be the most likely to sell first.
"Pubs are valued in terms of their turn over," said Alma Mater of RightMove. "The Rovers is always full, every night. In addition it has a brisk lunch time trade thanks to the local underwear factory and busy local garage. We expect to be able to shift that faster than any of the terraces."
With the credit crunch hitting the current owners of the street, ITV1, hard it is expected that they will be looking for a quick sale on the houses, rather than attracting their full value.
"We'd actually like to sell the street as a job lot of houses," said Carl S Burg, Property Manager for ITV1. "However, given that this could cost an individual several million pounds, we are considering individual bids."
Most of the houses on the Street are terraced, though there are a few semi-detached houses. It is handily placed in the centre of Manchester, with a Metrolink stop close by, and is expected to attract interest from several people. With local shops and a well regarded cafe, it is a desirable postcode. All interested parties should contact ITV at Carl S Burg, 1 Coronation Street, Manchester, M1 0AA.
