Downing Street has announced that Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to appear as Widow Twanky in this years production of Aladdin at London's Old Vic Theatre.
Government sources say the move is designed to counteract the general public's impression that the Prime Minister is somewhat dour and humourless.
The part of Aladdin we will be played by popular Australian chanteuse and former Neighbours thespian Kylie Minogue.
Minogue has previously been reported as saying that Gordon Brown is one of the worlds sexiest men.
Opposition leader David Cameron has called the move 'Desperate' and a sign that Labour's spin doctors are scraping the bottom of the barrel in an attempt to portray Brown as being in touch with ordinary people.
A spokesman for the Old Vic reported that ticket sales have been 'encouraging'.
David Cameron is appearing as Dick Whittington's cat at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
