Cameron Diaz, the voice of Princess Fiona in the Shrek movies and star of There's Something About Mary, apologized for a problem with her purse in Peru. The bag contained Chinese characters that were offensive to the native people, reminding them of a communist backed insurgency in the 1980's.
Dias was apologetic for the bag, saying that she had purchased it while on vacation in Hong Kong and thought that the symbols were pretty. She had no idea that they actually said "Death to the Incan offspring and may their llamas miscarry and go extinct."
To make up for the mishap, Diaz promised to fund research into insuring that no llama ever miscarried. She also said that she would try to include lima beans with every meal and encourage others to do this to stimulate the South American country's economy.
The actress was in Lima to promote a new line of hair gels and the Spanish language release of Shrek the Third.
