ENGLAND -- After the weekend news hit that the Rock N' Roll hall of fame now included several hip-hop / rap artists in this years recent inductees, Phil flipped out. Collins (56) says that when his mind was approached with even the slight notion that his phenomenal & esteemed career would be parallel with that of hip-hop music, he'd better call it quits for this music biz.
Phil earned his fame with legendary progressive rock band Genesis playing drums, later performing lead vocals after a lesser band guy named Peter Gabriel left to pursue some other avenue of less importance - perhaps retail sales. As a group, Genesis was widely successful with fans of all ages & tastes and was responsible for several spin off careers such as the amazing solo careers of Mike Rutherford of Mike and the Mechanics, and the overwhelming success of Phil Collins.
As eloquent as ever, Phil looked at the entourage of reporters covering Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five who were the first hip-hop act to be inducted in the Hall of fame, then looked at channel 5 news and said 'Fuck that' to the camera flipping the bird several times at anything and anyone who came near him. His comments may have been brief, but the impact is ever so poignant.
Word on the street is that he will quietly retire from pop stardom change his name and begin to sell Real Estate as soon as possible.
