Surprises were certainly the order of the day at the 2006 MTV Awards in Helsinki last night. Best pop act was Justin Timberlake and best rock act Muse but the surprise of the evening was Afganistan's own Taliban lifting the coveted 'Best Newcomer' award.
In a tightly fought group including Kim Il Jong and Robert Mugabe, the Taliban were not expected to pick up the prestigous award.
A deighted Bob Taliban said last night, "This shows what a small country can do. Although we have had just 3 hits over the last year, each one has resulted in the deaths of many foregin devils. Allah Akbar!"
The Talibans' manager, a Mr O.B Laden said last night, "This was a great night for the lads. It's good for them to let their hair down once in a while. They have been in the studio recently, cutting the hands off thieves and flogging their wives, so they needed a break."
The triumphant group performed their new single 'Dirty bomb in London' in front of a sell-out crowd.
