After her much trumpeted acting debut at the understated Olympic opening ceremony, the Queen's Hollywood career looks set to begin.
Universal are understood to be in talks with her majesty about a film chronicling the life and times of Helen Mirren. The Monarch's performance on Friday night is believed to have secured the role. The Queen said "I've always admired the Mirren and how she so effortlessly manages the limelight with dignity and charm."
Hyperbolic praise has been rolling in since the piece that the Head of State performed with fellow British institution James Bond. A fawning Clare Balding described the performance as 'mesmerising'. A wet Sue Barker hailed it as 'peerless acting' while ex Olympic swimmer and apparent prominent film critic Ian Thorpe marvelled at how she "delivered her line so brilliantly."
Serious-looking critic Mark Kermode offered technical analysis, "i don't give positive feedback easily, but the way she stood up from a sitting position, turned round as she was standing up, opened her mouth and said four words, was just sublime." Kermode noted that Her Majesty will be at pains to portray the Mirren tastefully in what is undoubtedly an intimidating role.
The Mirren is expected to be released later in the year.
Meanwhile Universal refused to confirm rumours that the also-ran in Friday's epic scene - James Bond - is to play secret agent double o pout Daniel Craig in the next instalment of the Daniel Craig saga.
