PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) Best Western Hotels announced this morning that phone service would be made available to each and every guest --- right in their hotel room! Already a recognized leader among international hotel chains for such innovations as fully carpeted floors, ceramic tile baths, the "best" of box springs and mattresses, good pillows, blankets and linens, and matching furniture, Best Western is now moving to update their guest communications services. Working closely with their sister organization, Western Electric, Best Western has begun installing brand new Western Electric Model 302 telephones in each of its 308,852 quality guestrooms located in 81 countries and territories worldwide.
Once the telephones are installed, cards instructing guests on proper dialling procedures will be printed and placed on nightstands in each room.
Mr. Tom Higgins, Best Western Chief Executive Officer said, "We strive to maintain the most modern hotel chain in the world. Now, with telephones in every room, our guests will no longer have to wander around dark halls in their underwear looking for the public phone. It will be many years before the rest of the hotel industry catches up with Best Western!"
