WASHINGTON (FMLiveWire) - Fast food giant Taco Bell has purchased the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as the number of effectively dead and insolvent American banks soars into the thousands.

"We got a good deal buying the FDIC, and we anticipate adding millions of new Taco Bell customers as their FDIC deposit insurance is converted into fast food credit accounts," said Taco Bell president Chuck Chihuahua.

In the complicated transaction, as US banks fail, their millions of formerly FDIC-insured accounts will become Taco Bell accounts, which the happy account holders will be able to use to purchase tacos, burritos and other delicacies.

The FDIC formally declared bankruptcy several weeks ago and while under court protection ruled that only bank accounts from $1,000 to $10,000 were entitled to deposit insurance, since insurance of $100,000 accounts was "totally out of the question" given the finances of the US government of George Bush according to court documents.

"Now, the account holders at FDIC Taco Bell branches will be able to buy as many tacos and burritos as they want until they have exhausted the credits in their account," enthused Chihuahua. Unfortunately, account holders cannot withdraw any money from the accounts.

FDIC Taco Bell is also offering the former depositors the chance to win free trips to Las Vegas, Disneyland, Buffalo, and also to win a gold coin or an adorable Taco Bell dog.

"Our millions of new customers will enjoy our expanded Taco Bell menu which will include a variety of TexMex and insect-based dishes," concluded Chihuahua.
