HMV, the music and book retailer, has secured a deal to buy the Fopp brand and will shortly reopen all of its stores.
Fopp went into administration at the beginning of July due, to what it described as, the decreased popularity of compact discs. Its 81 stores nationwide employed around 700 people.
Now, HMV intends to revive Fopp, and will open 6 stores - in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London's Covent Garden, Manchester, Nottingham and Cambridge - on August 11th, with others following in September.
A HMV spokesman said it was a great acquisition, adding:
"There will be a huge 'shock sale' to open each store. Details can be found on our website."
