Elvis Presley recently made a short visit back to earth, meeting with family and friends to make clear his disgust with the recently released Forbes' List of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities.
"It's an outrage," Elvis is said to have declared about his slipping into second place on the list behind Kurt Cobain for the period October 2005 to 2006. He added, "I deserve to be No. 1!"
Keeping in mind that August 16, 2007, will be the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis, his family and friends are determined to work hard to return him to the top spot on the Forbes List. They remember what Roy Orbison once said of Elvis:
"He was the firstest with the mostest."
Second place just doesn't cut it.
For his recent earthly visit, Elvis was flashily dressed (velvet cape and all!) in the outfit he wore when he met President Richard M. Nixon in the White House in 1970. One of the most popular in the National Archives, the Nixon-Presley photo can be viewed here: http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/nsa/elvis/elnix.html
Formal religion and Elvis never did quite click, but apparently his gospel music is still tops. Before bidding his family and friends good-bye at his recent visit, he treated them to his famous rendition of "How Great Thou Art." One observer reported that it was as moving and beautiful as ever, adding, "He can still hit that high note at the end."
