The Pope - My Fake Diary
Saturday, 19 May 2012
I have ordered Hildegard von Bingen who died in 1179, a 12th-century German nun, to be inscribed in the catalogue of saints.
She was the first woman to be officially recognised as a prophetess by the Roman Catholic Church.
In Hildegard's lifetime, Pope Eugenius III, who needed help fending off the Cathar heresy that rejected the church's worldly power, recognised the authenticity of her visions and authorized her to preach in public - something that was forbidden until that time and that nonetheless remains controversial within Catholicism.
And of course, her being German bore no affect on my decision!
