George Osborne - My Fake Diary
Friday, 18 May 2012
My third secretaries, second assistants, filing clerk handed me this ho printed off the Evening Standard's site: At the time of the Budget it seemed a fairly innocuous statement.
Gregg's McMeikan doesn't mind VAT. Greggs already charges VAT on its hot sandwiches, soup and hot drinks. For a start there is the question of what is the ambient temperature?
Anything sold above this temperature is VAT-able under the Budget proposal. The dictionary describes ambient as the "surrounding" temperature. But is that the temperature at the front door of Greggs which presumably varies somewhat according to the seasons and is also probably lower in the North than it is in the South?
Confusing isn't it?
