A series of adverts for jobs at the South Pole has brought over 3,000 replies in less than a month.
The British Antarctic Survey is offering carpenters, joiners and electricians £23,000 salaries to work at research stations in some of the remotest parts of the globe.
Spokeswoman Professor Spencer Litebaum said: "This is giving us the best possible chance of getting the best people. It will be a difficult but ultimately rewarding occupation for anyone who is committed and determined to take on a new and unusual challenge".
Former England boss and current Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has indicated an interest.
