US President Barack Obama has staunchly defended controversial plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero in New York.
Opponents say this is why people think he is a Muslim. That, and his name being so like that other man who has a name similar to his.
Obama rounded on his detractors and blasted them as short sighted. "Just think" he said, "if we have a mosque on every street corner in the country, where the heck is going to be left to bomb?"
Mr Obama acknowledged "sensitivities" surround the 9/11 site, but said "We, oops sorry I mean 'they', have the same right to practise our, oops I did it again, sorry, I mean 'their' religion as anyone else".
