Snakes are endangered worldwide and may be extinct by 2050, say wildlife experts. But, as zoologist Dr Patrick Sodderly points out, whilst they may be seen as evil poisonous slitherers, snakes are, in fact, a vital part of our world.
According to Dr Sodderly's report, snakes perform a number of vital functions. Figures from his research attest that, without snakes, Raiders of the Lost Ark would have been a much less exciting movie, and it is most unlikely that the James Bond franchise could have lasted so long.
Dr Sodderly concludes in his 203 page thesis:
"Snakes don't just kill things, they actually increase certain other populations, such as wildlife photograhers and documentary-makers."
