Identify theft is currently one of the most vexing problems facing humanity. It is a callous, heinous, inhumane crime and it can happen to anyone. To complicate matters, once a person's identity has been stolen, it is nearly impossible to replace.
Alfonso Capone, Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of Chicago, says that there are ways for people to protect themselves from identity theft. "Never leave your identity unlocked or unattended. Do this and you are just asking to be a victim", says Professor Capone. Another security tip Dr. Capone gives is to make sure to write down the serial number of your identity and store the number in a secure place, such as a safety deposit box.
