The entire Disney community, as well as 5-11 year-olds everywhere, were saddened to learn of the passing of Buzz Lightyear, loveable character of the movie Toy Story, on Sunday afternoon. He was 46.
Minnesota authorities reported that the motel owner called the police station at around 8:45 that morning to complain about strange noises coming from Lightyear's room. When police arrived at the room, they found Lightyear on the floor, in convulsions.
"This is such a tragedy for us," stated Minnesota Police Chief Dick Fukum. "The real problem for me is explaining it to my 6-year-old that Buzz Lightyear died, and that I had to be the one to report it."
Autopsy results revealed that Lightyear had died from acute heart failure, caused by undiagnosed arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease and enlargement of the heart as a result of prior anabolic steroid abuse and toxic levels of cocaine and benzodiazepine (anti-anxiety drug). It was also found that Lightyear was also suffering from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Buzz is survived by his husband/co-star Woody, his two daughters, Judy (age six) and Judy (age nine), and his son, Judy (age eleven).
