Panama - Ten tonnes of fake gelatin sticks, detonators and useless bomb making kit billed as 'sophisticated missile equipment' has been seized aboard a North Korean vessel in the Panama Canal.
The haul is believed to have cost North Korean nutter Kim Jong-Un around $50 million despite emerging evidence that 'fake currency' may have been involved in the original transaction.
This morning the Siberian-registered MV Fidel was still being searched by the Panamanian bomb squad as several tonnes of counterfeit brown sugar packed around the fake arms haul began crystallizing under the heat of the blistering sun, giving off toxic burnt caramel fumes.
The news hit Pyongyang hard with Kim Jong-Un threatening to 'blow himself up' in an act of revenge against what aides have dubbed as the Cuban forgery.
"Bang goes Edward Snowden's Pyongyang asylum request," a Panama website commented.
The current rate for smuggling ordnance to sanctions-hit North Korea has rocketed to $100 per ship's deadweight tonnage.
