Mike Huckabee, a potential candidate for the GOP 2012 nomination, continued his accusations against President Obama on another conservative talk radio station yesterday. By late afternoon, his comments were racing around the internet, talk radio, and Fox News.
The interview had just started when Huckabee leaned in close to his microphone and the interviewer and said conspiratorially, "I have just received word that President Obama's mother attended a Hairdressa in Jakarta, Indonesia and did so for years!"
Host: "No!"
Huckabee: "Not only did she attend once a week but she took her little boy, Barack Hussein with her. This is big news. We now know where the president of our country received his indoctrination! This is not a pretty sight! You can see the implications!"
As the word of Huckabee's announcement swept the internet, the major TV and radio stations held back on coverage waiting for confirmation.
An industrious journalist from MSNBC contacted an affiliate in Jakarta to check out the story. Here is what he learned: Obama's mother, did indeed, go regularly to a beauty salon and hairdresser in Jakarta that catered to expats from the U.S. and Western Europe. A spokesperson from the salon remembered Ann Dunham, Obama's mother. "She was a nice lady and often brought her son, Barack, to the salon. Many others did the same, it was kind of like a play school too, as their mothers talked of home and life in our country."I don't know how anyone could confuse "hairdressers" with "madrassas."
The major news channels and mainstream radio broke the story of Huckabee's gaffe late in the day. Most Americans were shocked and disgusted by the dishonesty of Huckabee's statements. Moveon.org placed a full page ad in the NYT calling out the insidious ploy by Huckabee and Fox News.
When a reporter confronted Huckabee late yesterday, he responded, "I stand by my statements. I expected the left wing Jew media would try this! They never change! Plus they have no idea how tough it is for colored people to keep their hair nice and fluffy." When reminded that President Obama's mother was white, Hucakbee replied, "I don't see color."
In late breaking news, the Tea Party Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives has just introduced legislation that would deny the right to vote to anyone whose IQ exceeded that of their normal body temperature.
