The rector of a Massachusetts Church holding morning services at the beach said two hunters nearby shot a goose dead in front of his followers just as he was giving a sermon to the children on why it is important to respect all God's creatures. The hunters were aware of the Church service but later said that it was their God-given as well as Constitutional right to hunt wherever the hell they wanted.
The shooting took place on town property but as yet, charges have not been filed against the hunters.
Cletus Bowleg and Eustis Firklejammer claim they hunt at that beach every year about this time when the geese begin to migrate south. "Jesus," said Cletus not in a reverent way, "if I'd a known kids was gonna be on the beach where we do our huntin', I'd a at least given a little lecture on not making so much danged noise when hunters are tryin' to hunt."
Eustis agreed. "I don't think I hafta spell it out for anyone, but since y'all are making such a big fuss about a goose dying in front of little kiddies, all I gots to say is God made geese, God made guns and bullets, and God sure as hell make geese huntin' fun. I suggest the next time the Rector wants to give a sermon, he keep his flock in church and leave us to hunt our flock outdoors."
