President Obama has named General James Clapper as the new Intelligence Chief, following the resignation of Dennis Blair in May.
His appointment has had mixed reviews, as many in Congress objected to his nomination; it is felt that he will have a hard time winning over Capitol Hill.
When questioned as to why he was pushing for James Clapper, President Obama said that he favoured him because he looked very intelligent - and he believed that this was half the battle. He said the shaven 'egg head' look further enhanced this image.
Further, prior to nominating him, President Obama and Clapper took lunch together and Obama conceded that he understood less than 50% of the table conversation. He said it was a fair assumption that this made Clapper VERY intelligent.
Therefore, based on these two solid reasons - he felt compelled to push Gen James Clappers nomination forward.
