President Obama's daughters are heartbroken after he ran over and killed their dog in a White House golf cart.
The president had completed a three over par round on the course behind the building when the accident happened.
The six-month-old Portuguese water dog Bo was taken to the Sinai Cedars hospital but was understood to be dead on arrival.
President Obama had bought the dog for his daughters Leverne, ten, and Vogue, seven, after he won the election.
The purchase of the dog is still thought to be his only achievement in office so far.
A White House spokesman said: 'This was a terrible accident. Bo had strolled on to the golf course with his tail between his legs when he was shooed off the Obama's bed.
'The president did not see or hear Bo, who was unfortunately dragged under the wheels of the cart for half a mile.'
But White House gardener Bill Cosby gave a different story.
'The president had gone into the Oval Office and found Bo had crapped in his favourite baseball cap,' Mr Cosby said.
'He ran out of the building screaming, but Bo was to fast for him and ran away.
'The president got on to the golf cart to chase him down.
'I saw Obama before before the impact when he had cornered the dog in a magnolia grove.
'His mouth was foaming, his eyes were shining like headlights. He was shouting: ''You're my doggie now.''
