The crowd that witnessed Mark McGwire hit his record breaking 62nd homerun on Sept. 8, 1998, at 8:18 p.m.

NEW YORK CITY - Mark McGwire in town visiting the Statue of Liberty and buying some Coney Island Hot Dogs to take back to his home in Irvine, California has finally admitted, after more than a decade of denial, that he did in fact take Altoids during his baseball career.

McGwire said that he did not do it to gain an unfair advantage, but that the did it to make sure that he had the freshest breath possible.

He said that he granted dozens of interviews on a daily basis and he did not want for any of the sports writers to write that Mark McGwire is one hell of a homerun hitter, but wow, his breath could knock down a Missouri mule.

McGwire says that at the time he really did not think that it was such a big deal. But he realizes now that apparently it was because it has kept him from getting elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

When asked if his friend and fellow baseball competitor Sammy Sosa also took Altoids, Mark answered that he did not know.

He did say that he remembers that Sammy was more into Tic Tacs during the 1998 homerun race, in which he (McGwire) broke Roger Maris' record by hitting 62 home runs in one season.

When Sammy Sosa was asked to comment he responded in broken English. "I know nossing about what Marky ease talking about. I dunt take ticky tackys or nossing like dat to make my breathing smell more bedder, tank ju too many."

In a related story. Ex-teammate of Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco was asked to make a statement regarding McGwire finally admitting to using Altoids. Canseco said, "I told everyone, but no one would $#&^*%@ listen to me!"

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
