California police are probing the claim after a tipoff from Viennese counterparts sparked an international child stealing ring hunt.
Garrido, 69, and his wife Nancy 'Reagan' Garrido kidnapped the South Lake Tahoe schoolgirld and held her hostage for the next 18 years in a 'backside within a backside' home made jail.
Ms Dugard subsequently bore Garrido two children in an ordeal likened to Fritzl's daughter.
Garrido has told a US TV station of a 'hearwarming' human story will exonerate him from rape, kidnapping, lascivious behaviour with a minor and other serious charges.
