Baltimore MD: Construction has finally begun, after much controversy over the route, on the light rail system known as the Baltimore Red Line.
Initial operations started with a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) excavating an underground section of the line. The TBM came to a screeching halt, as the machine ran into a trove of historical artifacts. This event was not unexpected, as has occurred in other cities such as Athens Greece, where subways have been built.
While not as old as some cities, Baltimore does have long history by American standards. The Archeologists were called in to investigate and found whips, chains, manacles and shards of women's clothing from a bygone era. This too is not surprising as Baltimore was once a center for the slave trade. Then the Archeologists discovered the condoms, throwing a whole new perspective on the historical find. Construction work was resumed.
Both the Governor of Maryland and the Mayor of Baltimore agreed that this light rail line is aptly named.
