NYC, NY, USA Lady Liberty has attempted to commit suicide.
She expressed shock and grief when informed of NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg's two year old program of shipping the homeless as far away from New York as possible.
The Lady has a right to be disgruntled; she has carried the inscription:
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door,"
since 1903 and feels betrayed by Bloomberg. She feels she has been mocked and does not believe she will be able to survive the ridicule and scorn of her European friends when they discover Bloomberg's backstabbing.
Bloomberg's program has rid the city of 564 homeless families at a cost of a million dollars; those "huddled masses" have been shipped off to 24 different states and five continents.
Liberty is said to be on suicide watch at Bellevue Hospital after jumping into New York Harbor and attempting to drown herself.
