St Paul - Al Franken, a former Saturday Night Live comedian and author of several books, including "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot", was sworn in as the new Senator of Minnesota this week.
Mr. Franken was originally announced as the winner of the 2008 election by 312 votes. The election results were challenged by Republican incumbent Norm Coleman in the Minnesota Supreme Court, leading to an 8 month long legal battle which ended last week with the court's announcement that Mr. Franken was the rightful winner of the Senate seat.
When asked to comment on the court's decision, Mr. Franken said "I was very confident I would win this Senate seat because I'm good enough… I'm smart enough… and doggonnit, people like me!!"
