At this crucial juncture in the push to pass an economic recovery package, President Obama finds himself in the most unlikely of places: He is losing the message war.
Despite Obama's high personal approval ratings, polls show support has declined for his stimulus bill since Republicans and their conservative talk-radio allies began railing against what they labeled as pork barrel spending within it.
"Of course it has some pork in it. I added vouchers for free Viagra for those over 50 to spice it up a bit", Obama reportedly told friends. "But those Republicans and some Democrats, who apparently haven't paid their taxes in years and are afraid I will appoint THEM to an office, have so much money they don't need help for that part of the stimulus packages."
"I think Bob Dole is passing freebies out anyway."
"I wonder if a Hundred Million Man March on Washington would change their minds?"
"Support of the 'Peckerhead Party' could also help me win in 2012."
