Because of the recent crash of US Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson river and the probability that it was caused by a bird strike, all birds, including pigeons, are to be outfitted with a portable transponder, allowing them to be tracked by air traffic control.
This is perfectly safe for the animals, PETA is not to be concerned. As a matter of fact they should do what they can to help authorities in rounding up the birds to be fitted.
