In the classic anti-war novel of Joseph Heller, Catch-22, if you wanted to stop flying bombing missions you were clearly sane enough to be denied a mental illness discharge. If you were crazy enough to want to continue flying bombing missions than you never asked for a discharge.
US General Petraeus, Bush's rock upon which he will drag out this war, has reinvented Heller's satirical mockery of the ironic illogic of war. Two days ago, Petraeus refused to speed up the withdrawal of American troops despite his claims of security progress and Iraqi Army competence and the dramatic increase in PTSD and suicides among US Iraqi War long timers.
Today, General General denied that if things keep going south in Iraq a new surge of US troops will be necessary.
The surge created security, the soldiers must stay but if there are not enough soldiers to secure Iraq, there will not be another surge...so that means we will not let the poor bastards there come home but if things get worse will not send them support... Like Spinal Taps amplifier volume redesigner, it's more; it's 11...Petraeus Catch- 23
