(WASHINGTON DC) Tony Blair has shocked the world by announcing that he is to stand in the November Presidential elections as an independent.
Blair announced his decision to stand in a surprise interview on Fox news last night. Speaking to Shephard Smith, he told viewers that he had learned from his mistakes
"It's quite obvious that you Americans can't be trusted to run your own country - that much is obvious" he told a stunned audience, "Look what you made us do in Iraq".
"I'm running for President because I want to return America to where it belongs - the British Commonwealth. I think Americans would love to have the Queen as their head of state. She can live in the White House".
Who's on the ticket?
Speculation about the possible identity of Blair's running mate is already rife. One insider told us that it is likely to be Bill Clinton, and that Hillary was only hanging on in the Democratic nomination race in order to damage Obama's Presidential campaign.
Blair is eligible for the contest as he secretly took part in a civil partnership, the British equivalent of gay marriage, with George Bush, in order to gain US citizenship.
Compromise
Eager to brush off rumors that he and Bush were in a homosexual relationship, Blair told Fox News that "it was just a marriage of convenience. He wanted to invade Iraq, and I wanted his job. We found a compromise".
But President Bush has since denied that his decision last week to allow immigrants to run for President had anything to do with Blair's decision to stand.
"There was absolutely zero collusion in this" he insisted at a White House press conference. Me and Tony are just on the same page all the time. It's like we're the same person".
