A study by Heartland State University has concluded that illiteracy rates are highest among those who can neither read or write.
A professor at the school said: "It's a true national disgrace that the illiterates in this country have such a high rate of illiteracy, in some areas approaching 100%. Where are our education dollars being spent?"
He added: "Writing in to your congressman is the duty of all Americans, except the ones in this study."
The news of this study comes just days after the shocking announcement that teenage pregnancy is highest amongst teenage mothers.
